Ah, the pull of the open road. We love to explore the mountains, the beaches, the wide open spaces. And we love the dazzling cities awaiting our wide eyed exploration. But let’s face it, despite the allure of just dropping everything and running, we know that we’d miss the odd comfort or a small piece of home.
Aimee Fuller lives her life on the road, her job as one of the world’s top snowboarders meaning a continual quest for the white stuff interspersed with some pretty sweet surf holidays judging from her Instagram account! Aimee is all for cramming as much as she can in her bag, along with some hair straighteners, a bikini and pair of heels. Sophie Hellyer reckons it’s all about your sunscreen, conditioner and moisturiser so you can make yourself look and feel good anywhere. Oh, and a snorkel. And the top tip from Cycle Show presenter Anna Glowinski?
“There’s so much to learn from travelling, mostly a sense of independence and learning how to cope with out-of-routine situations. So a wallet is good but it’s not fundamental if you lose it. You can make it work out. There’s always a solution to everything. When I travel I can live a different life for a while, without having to commit to a whole life of the unknown”, so don’t sweat the small stuff basically.
As our Editor is hopelessly frugal when packing, a habit inherited from her intrepid father who would chop the handle off his toothbrush to saveweight. We’re not keen on taking things quite that far; but we certainly we be hauling around an over packed suitcase. So we put together a simple summer pack for the Ed’s adventures and here are our essentials.
We loooove the Pendleton x T Level pack so we’ll be bunging our stuff in here.
Sunscreen. The one thing our road trip panel of Aimee Fuller, Anna Glowinski and Sophie Hellyer agreed you’ll need. And Keihl’s makes our favourite.
Knickers! Actually this was the other thing everyone agreed on. We’ll be slinging a few cheeky pairs from Mimi Holiday in our pack. Ooh, lala!
Lipgloss. Well we skate and BMX but we’re still women! And we love Burt’s Bees.
A Camera. We love anaologue to tell the truth. But you can’t deny the joy of having a high quality digital camera in your pocket. You’re never going to run out of film, and you have more chance to get your shot perfect. And we have our eyes on this beautiful Leica D Lux 5.
Bikini. If we’re not headed to the beach, we’ll try our darndest to seek out the hot tub or spa.
This Nikita number will do the trick.
Our towel doubles up as a rug, a changing room, a picnic blanket. And we like this one from Quiksilver Women.
Light, soft shoes you can slip on easily. If they’re not hand made moccasins by Rose Choules, we’re not happy.
And shorts. Can’t just walk around in a bikini, can we? Loving these Quiksilver Women Original Aloha shorts.
But don’t sweat it if you’ve left it till late to prepare. Take a leaf out of Anna Glowinski’s book
“ I never pack until an hour or so before I leave, as it means that I can’t take out something that I’ve packed because I need to use it and forget to put it back. I also feel that if you leave it to the last minute the urgency gives you precise clarity.
